Live Events for Carlos Fonseca, author of 'Colonel Lágrimas'

July 28, 2016 in Events, Fiction

This October, rising literary star Carlos Fonseca joins the constellation of the "new Latin American boom" that includes authors Valeria Luiselli, Alejandro Zambra, Álvaro Enrigue, Yuri Herrera, Andrés Neuman, and others. Colonel Lágrimas (Oct. 4, 2016) is his dazzling debut about the demented final project of a brilliant mathematician that is also an allegory of our hyperinformed age and of the clash between European and Latin American history. In the tradition of the best of Bolaño, Borges, and Calvino, the book breaks new ground that is fully Fonseca's own.

Fonseca was born in Costa Rica in 1987 and grew up in Puerto Rico. He currently teaches at University of Cambridge. Catch him live at the events below.

Colonel Lágrimas
Colonel Lágrimas

by Carlos Fonseca

Translated from the Spanish by Megan McDowell

“Beware, reader, in these pages you will experience vertigo, anxiety and joy. You will become a ghostly presence in a Borgesian world, a camera obscura, where mathematics is a secret weapon, and memory the object of an archaeological pursuit. Loosely inspired by the eventful life of the French mathematician Alexander Grothendieck, Fonseca has created a gorgeous opera prima.”

—Valerie Miles, New York Times Book Review
